Music for Children
Tony has been actively involved with musical education for children for quite some years now. He gives educational concerts for kids with his trio Wat is dat eigenlijk, jazz? (What’s That! Jazz?). He has recorded two succesful cd’s for children with stories of Kikker (Frog),written by Max Velthuijs and accompanied by his quintet. This project has received a great deal of attention and the cd Kikker Swingt (Frog Swings) has sold over 10,000 copies.
As an assignment of the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam Tony, together with singer/songwriter Lotte van Dijck, developed two special projects for schools, Stadsnootjes (city notes) and the most recent Papa Pia. Both of these projects are a mixture of musical theatre and multi cultural musical education for children aged seven and up. The songs composed by Van Dijck and Overwater are establishing themselves in the world of children's songs and are fast becoming part of the standard repertoire of the younger generations.
